Greetings from the Chair of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures

The start of a new semester is a time for new beginnings, for renewal, and for change.

In Summer 2015, Dr. Nicole Rudolph was granted tenure and promotion to Associate Professor and Dr. Jonathan Hiller’s contract was renewed. We are very fortunate to have two outstanding colleagues with us.

I was re-elected as chair of the Department for another three years!

We all work very hard in the department to continually improve our programs and service to the students. In the following pages you will read that our faculty continues to impress the university community with many well-deserved recognitions. Our programs continue to grow, alumni keeps supporting us and faculty and students are constantly “in the news.”

Since the Fall 2015 semester, the Language Resources Center has been used for classroom purposes and to house the French, Italian and Spanish Clubs. It will also be used for the French, Italian and Spanish Language Tables!

All in all, we have had a very productive and exciting year. As always, we look forward to hearing more about you. Many thanks to all of you for keeping in touch and support our endeavors to expand student opportunities. Thanks to Mr. Hartmann who made additional donation for the Robert M. Hartmann Scholarship for Excellence in Spanish.

This year, two of our students Hanggi Lee and Ashley Corbeil were selected to be part of the prestigious Hire a Panther Program. They both offered tutorial services in French and Spanish to our students. We will have an alumni reunion in June 4, 2016, we will invite you so you can share with us your stories and journeys. We are looking forward to seeing you again.

On behalf of our faculty, staff and students, I wish you a wonderful spring, and hope you will stay connected with us.
